Alpine U10 Far West Championship

March 20-23, 2025 - The U10 Far West season came to a close with three days of races at Sugar Bowl. Friday brought chilly, stormy weather for the GS down the Hannes Schroll race venue off Lincoln. The new venue challenged U10 racers with its numerous terrain changes and length. SBA women rose to the challenge with 3 in the top 4 finishers! Emery Keatley took the victory, Genevieve Faix joined her on the podium in 3rd, and Catherine Hanbury was just behind in 4th. Aaron Shefftz (12th) and Will Keatley (14th) were the top finishers for the men.

U10 racers switched to Van Ruiten’s Arena for Saturday’s slalom. On the men’s side, Aaron Shefftz won his first race and was joined on the podium by Finn Owens in 3rd. Will Keatley (7th) and Owen McCoy (11th) also made the front page. Catherine Hanbury placed 2nd for the women.

Sunday saw the return of the kombi, a race that combined sections of slalom, panel slalom and GS with a couple of rollers, for the first time in years. Emery Keatley (1st) and Genevieve Faix (3rd) matched their finishes from Friday, while Aaron Shefftz and Finn Owens went one-two for the men. Owen McCoy finished 12th. Aaron Shefftz took home the Maury Rasmussen award as the top male finisher for the championships while Emery Keatley won the women’s overall for the season. Congratulations to all of our U10 Far West athletes on a successful season and shout outs to coaches Erhard, Ben and Brett for prepping this impressive group of athletes.
