Alpine U10 at Northstar

March 1-2, 2025 - Spring arrived early on Saturday with sunny skies and highs in the mid-50s only to see-saw back to winter the very next day with occasional snow showers and a near 30 degree temperature drop. Through this range of weather, Sugar Bowl Academy’s U10 group took to Logger’s Loop for the Big G. Making use of linked delay gates, sometimes as many as four consecutive, our young racers got the feel of longer 30 meter arcs.

On Saturday, Genevieve Faix used the fastest first run to secure a victory, while Catherine Hanbury skied the fastest second run to move into 3rd. Emery Keatley was just off the podium in 4th. Lucas Strohl led the men’s team with a 6th place finish with Aaron Shefftz (10th) and Owen McCoy (14th) also making the top fifteen. Isaac Cleary had a personal best finish in 17th.

On Sunday, the men’s team went first. Finn Owens put down the third fastest second run (just 0.06 off first) to rise to 4th on the day and Lucas Strohl took 10th. Emery Keatley took the win with the fastest times on both first and second runs. Genevieve Faix and Catherine Hanbury finished in 5th and 6th positions. Great job SBA, not only skiing fast, but providing course reports to and encouraging and cheering on your teammates! This was the last Far West race before the championships hosted by Sugar Bowl on March 21-23.
