A message from the head of school

Dear Prospective Family,

Thank you for your interest in Sugar Bowl Academy, an 8th-12th grade independent college preparatory boarding and day high school designed for competitive Alpine, Nordic and Freeride skiers. Sugar Bowl Academy student-athletes thrive on the dual pursuit of rigorous academics and competitive skiing in an environment that celebrates hard work and the pursuit of worthy goals. Our school's mission invokes the characteristics of grit, grace and courage, which we integrate throughout all aspects of the student-athlete experience. Our unique location as the only ski-in/ski-out ski academy in the country, at the top of Donner Summit in the Lake Tahoe Basin, is an important geographic differentiator in addition to our annual snowfall of 450 inches.

Our coaches, teachers and staff are among the finest in the country, and are the cornerstones of our family-like community. I encourage you to read the biographies of our staff on our website and learn about their remarkable stories, accomplishments and personal journey’s to SBA.

The proof points for the value of a Sugar Bowl Academy education lies in both the acceptances to the nation's finest colleges and universities, U.S. Ski Team athletes and athletic success, and the immeasurable contribution to the workforce of globally minded young adults living our mission and values.

I am honored that you and your family are considering Sugar Bowl Academy as a place where your child can pursue academic excellence and develop their skills as an elite Alpine, Nordic or Freeride skier and human being.
