Norden, CA (June 4th, 2018) Sugar Bowl Academy alumni, Luke Winters and Hannah Halvorsen, along with current Sugar Bowl Ski Team and Academy athlete, Ainsley Proffit, have been nominated to the 2018 – 2019 U.S Ski Team. They join the top skiers in the country and will have the support of a world class program, including access to the USSA Center of Excellence, as well as athletic benefits including an elite coaching, sport science, sports medicine and high-performance staff in Park City, UT.

Luke Winters (GRAD YEAR, ’15) spent the 2017-18 season with the USST Alpine D-Team and had strong results at 2018 World Junior Championships in Davos, SUI. Devin Gill, Sugar Bowl Academy Head Men’s FIS coach said, “This is a great honor for Luke and has been a long time coming. When I coached Luke at SBA, he was an incredibly driven and hardworking athlete. That certainly continued as he moved on to working with the USST. He took advantage of a well-coached, cohesive group and used that to put down his career best results. I'm looking forward to seeing Luke continue to progress this coming season."

Hannah Halvorsen (’17) joined the Alaska Pacific University Elite Team in 2017-18 while also racing as a member of the USST Nordic D-Team. “Hannah's re-nomination to the US Ski Team recognizes another strong year of racing for her. Her continued hard work and the opportunity to train alongside fellow USST members in Alaska has been a positive move for her and shone in standout results at World Junior Championships and US National events. She continues to represent Sugar Bowl Academy well and we're excited to see her continued progress over the coming season.”, states Martin Benes, SBA Nordic Program Director.

Ainsley Proffit, Sugar Bowl Ski Team and Academy member, had eye-opening results throughout the course of the 2017-18 season while coached by Brett Jacobson and Brandy Barna. BJ stated, “We're stoked for Ainsley to be recognized for her efforts. She's highly motivated and willing to work hard to achieve her goals. Scoring Nor-Am points in all five disciplines is something not many first-year athletes are able to do. She dialed in some basic fundamentals during the prep period allowing her to ski with great freedom and intensity at races. As she continues to push and be pushed by her teammates, I have no doubt Ainsley will raise the bar once again in 2019!”
