Sugar Bowl Academy Nordic Skier, Lexie Madigan Earned Her First U.S. Biathlon Team Nomination
Norden, CA (January 2, 2018) – Lexie Madigan, a sophomore at Sugar Bowl Academy, earned her first U.S. Biathlon Team nomination to compete at the IBU World Youth Championships following a frigid two days of trials in Coleraine, MN. Madigan finished the series ranked third for youth (16-18 years-old) competitors and fourth overall for juniors (under 21) at the U.S. Trials. As a member of the U.S. Team to World Youth Championships, she will compete February 26-March 4 in Oetepaa, Estonia.
"I can't really feel my hands, still," Madigan said hours after finishing the series in Coleraine, where temperatures never reached more than three degrees Fahrenheit. Madigan, traditionally as solid shooter, struggled with the cold and had to make up time on the course.
"I'm just really psyched to have made the team," Madigan said. "It's a relief to be able to focus on going to Europe."
Thanks to her speedy skiing, Madigan was also named to the U.S. Team to compete in both the IBU Junior Cup and the European Junior Biathlon Championships, January 25-27in Dugszniki Zdroj, Poland and January 31- February 4 in Poklujka, Slovenia.
