Sugar Bowl Ski Team & Academy U16 Women Sweep the Podium in Slalom at Clifford Mann Classic in Mammoth
Norden, CA (December 19, 2016) – Sugar Bowl Ski Team & Academy (SBSTA) dominated the women’s field in the Clifford Mann Classic in Mammoth by placing nine athletes in the top fifteen spots for the slalom race. Sugar Bowl Academy U16 athletes, Gwenn Wattenmaker, Morgan Ellis, and Georgianna Sullivan led the way by sweeping the podium. Alpine Program Director, Eric Harlow said, "We're very proud of the girls and the effort they put in that goes along with a performance like today. Ski racing can be tough; it requires so much of an individual. These girls have worked hard both on-snow during the prep period and off-snow during our conditioning cycle, it's nice to see their hard work rewarded with strong early results."
The SBA athletes have been working hard throughout the Fall and began their on snow training with three weeks in Colorado in November. The Clifford Mann Classic in Mammoth was their first race series of the season. Scott Harlow, Head U16 coach said "with over four feet of snow from this week's storm, conditions were very challenging and the ruts were deep. Gwen, Morgan, Georgie, and the entire SBSTA team attacked the hill with confidence, focusing only on how they could ski their best. The hard, character molding work from this fall and learning to focus on the process, instead of the outcome is starting to lead to some great results. We as the U16 coaching staff are very happy with how the team is progressing and are excited for the year ahead!"
