Norden, CA (March 2, 2017) - Sugar Bowl Ski Team & Academy (SBSTA), The World Junior Championships that took place in Soldier Hollow, UT set the stage for the US Women to capture the bronze in the 4x3 relay. Team USA had never won a medal at the World Juniors, and being on the podium was a dream come true built out of a lot of hard work and determination. U. S. Ski Team Coach, Bryan Fish stated, “This was a part of a plan that these four athletes have worked on for nearly two years. Today they put it together on the snow.” Russia won the gold and France took the Silver.
Hannah Halvorsen said, “I skied 3 legs of 4x relay and was tagged off in 7th place.” She then tagged off Katherine Ogden in 4th place and was right with 3rd place team. She had 3rd fastest split of the day, only 3 seconds behind Katherine who was fastest and only 1/10 sec slower than the Russian anchor who's team took 1st place. It was Hannah’s 3rd split that opened up the podium for team USA! The relay was made up of Hailey Swirbul from the University of Alaska, Anchorage, Julia Kern from Stratton Mountain School, Hannah Halvorsen from Sugar Bowl Academy, and Katherine Ogden also hailing from Stratton Mountain School. The hard work and dedication through intense workouts is paying off for Hannah at Sugar Bowl Academy. Martin Benes, Director of Nordic Programs at SBA said, “It's been great to see these four girls pushing each other to get better over the past few years. I knew that a podium performance was a possibility as long as they all skied strong. Hannah put down an impressive third leg for the relay. She skied with confidence and put the USA in podium position, it was great to see that effort come together. It was a warm, challenging day in Utah and I was pleased to see Hannah's efforts to improve in softer conditions pay off.”
