My Day at SBA

Max Krone, Class of 2010, Freeride, Boarding Student
Wednesday, March 17th

7:30am Wake up and head downstairs for hot breakfast. Pancakes and an egg sandwich. Yum!
8:15am Grab my gear and catch the shuttle to Village Hall (team locker room at mountain).
9:30am After two warm-up runs on the Disney Express, the Freeride team heads to the park to work on new tricks with Coach Sean. With the support of a few encouraging words from Sean, I finally figure out how to land my Cork 7 with confidence.
12:30pm In Medical Microbiology class, we are learning about schistosomiasis. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this horrible disease and so many people are dying of it.
2:00pm Great discussion on East of Eden, by John Steinbeck, Mr. Tuscano’s favorite author, in A.P. Literature class. Who knew that Adam Trask represents the biblical character, Abel?
2:50pm Head to advisory with Mr. Giordano and Mr. Ascher. We’re reevaluating our mid-winter goals today.
3:10pm Meet with Ms. Knox during Study Hall to discuss my Senior Project paper. I’ve got a good handle on my research and paper, but what am I going to do for my product?!
4:10pm Debate the issue of gun control in A.P. US Government. I wonder, does Mr. Knox really think we should all have machine guns at home or is he just playing devil’s advocate?
5:10pm Finally a free moment…oh not really, Chef Tom wants me to make a salad for dinner tonight.
7:15pm Work on Pre-Calculus homework during Study Hall.
9:15pm Grab a couple of friends for a video game session in the student lounge.

Kelly Habibi, Class of 2012, Nordic, Day Student
Tuesday, December 8th

9:00am Heading up to training at Royal Gorge with Coach Jeff.
9:45am Intervals, intervals, and more intervals! By the third one, I’m feeling sluggish and sloppy, but Jeff motivates me to keep trucking up those hills with proper technique at 90% of my maximum speed.
10:45am The team takes a cool down lap around Van Norden Meadow – the boys make us laugh as we bump into Ms. Knox on her workout.
12:30pm Time to digest another great lunch and spend a few more minutes preparing for my Biology test.
1:35pm Wow! Can’t believe how well I’m going to do on this Bio test. My extra help sessions with Mr. G have really paid off.
2:40pm Finish reading Angels and Deamons in Advisory Reading Block.
3:05pm Edit photos for Yearbook class - we've got some really good shots this year.
5:10pm School ends and I catch the shuttle back down to Truckee.
6:15pm Arrive home, scarf down pasta dinner, and take a few minutes of down time before starting my homework.
10:00pm Finished all my homework and now I'm headed to bed.

Wednesday, October 7th

5:45am Alarm goes off - it's an early one.
6:15am My dad drives me up to school for early morning conditioning. Luckily, coaches Devin and Luke will have enough energy to inspire all of us for a productive workout.
7:45am Grab a quick shower and breakfast before heading to morning classes.
9:05am Head to the Dining Room for an All School Meeting. I wonder what Ms. Wilson will have for us this morning.
12:00pm Steak sandwiches and salad for lunch, plus one of Chef Tom's muffins!
2:15pm Ancient History class: we debate Great Pyramid construction techniques
3:00pm Afternoon conditioning session: 45 minute run followed by some plyometric work on Hermann’s newly constructed plyo board. Good thing Sarah, our athletic trainer, is with our group today as I’ve got some major shin splints for her to work on.
5:00pm Meet with Coach Luke and discuss how best to get my equipment dialed in before October camp.
5:15pm Meet with Mr. Giordano about Algebra 2 homework before heading home.
8:00pm Watch some TV before starting my homework.

Carrie Adams, Class of 2011, Freeride, Boarding Student
Friday, April 30th

7:58am Phew, made it to Physics class on time after waking up a bit late this morning. Good thing Mr. Ascher has planned one of his outside activities today – I need a pick me up.
9:30am Waltz into SAT Prep just in time to hear Mr. T remind us that the SAT is tomorrow. Tomorrow! I can’t believe that deadline snuck up on me so quickly. Good thing I’ve been studying for the past six weeks.
10:35am Run to the kitchen to grab a gluten free pancake before reading block. Can’t wait to finish my book.
11:30am Quick meeting with Ms. Knox about my classes for next year. We decide I should continue on with Spanish which means an AP class.
12:30pm Pizza Friday! Today Chef Tom even has a gluten free pizza for me.
1:50pm U.S. History lesson on the Holocaust. For homework I’ve got to prepare a presentation to the class on denial of the Holocaust. How can anybody deny that? Last class of the week before conditioning and some more SAT prep work tonight.
3:00pm Headed down to the fields for some soccer and speedball with coaches Hermann, Luke, and Devin. Mr. G, Ms. Knox, and Ms. Wilson join us for some fast paced games.
6:00pm Quick phone call with my sister and a shower before heading back to town to watch the end of the boys’ lacrosse game and dinner at Tacos Jaliscos, my favorite.
8:00pm A few more hours of last minute prep work for the SAT and then headed to bed. We’ve got an early morning!

Tuesday, January 26

7:15am Wake up to a bluebird day and cold temps. Call the J3 hotline to double check the training plan. Coach Devin’s recording says we’re training slalom in the race arena.
10:45am Coach Lesley makes us strip down for some timed runs. She says I can be at least a second faster if I stand up and charge through the combinations instead of ducking around them. She’s pretty close – I make up 1.2 seconds!
11:30am Back to school and get changed for class.
12:15pm Have some one on one time with Mr. Giordano, my advisor, during lunch to talk about my upcoming travel plans.
1:40pm Discuss pros and cons of Lincoln's slave policy in history class. Did you know the Emancipation Proclamation only freed the slaves living in the southern states, not the northern ones?
2:45pm Fine tuning my skills on Adobe PageMaker in Yearbook class.
3:15pm Chef Tom just put out banana muffins for an afternoon snack. Just what I need to boost my energy for English class.
5:30pm Head home for some homework, dinner with my parents, and some ski preparation for tomorrow’s training session.
9:30pm Early bed time tonight - I'm beat!
