SBST Registration
SBA students MUST register for the Sugar Bowl Ski Team to ensure receipt of a seasons' pass and the completion of proper liability release forms. Please click here to register for the ski team, but do not pay any registration fees as they are included in SBA tuition. Scholarships
Bobby Sprock Memorial Scholarship
In honor of Bobbie Sprock, who along with her husband Vern owned Sierra Ski Ranch from 1950-1993, her family has established the Bobbie Sprock Memorial Scholarship to acknowledge athletes who will be 2nd year J3’s and older who excel in ski racing, have strong character, demonstrate academic excellence, have a financial need, and must be members in good standing with Far West Skiing. There are eight (8) scholarships available in the amount of $250 per athlete. To apply for this scholarship, all applicants must complete and submit an application. The criteria to apply for this scholarship include a completed application, USSA Athlete History, letters of recommendation, a copy of your most recent report card from school,and required photos. All completed applications, with everything in either a single pdf file or mailed in one packet, no staples or presentation folders please, must be sent to the Far West skiing office, and received no later than October 21, 2011. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Rick Hom Memorial Scholarship
The Rick Hom Memorial Scholarship provides financial means to assist young, deserving skiers in continuing their racing careers. This scholarship targets athletes that will be J2 or J3 racers for the upcoming season, who are striving for excellence in school and on the race hill, while showing enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Athletes must show a financial need and be members in good standing with Far West Skiing. There are two scholarships available in the amount of $2,000 per athlete. To apply for this scholarship, all applicants must complete and submit an application. The criteria to apply for this scholarship include a completed application, USSA Athlete History, two letters of recommendation, a copy of your most recent report card from school and required photos. All completed applications, with everything in either a single pdf file or mailed in one packet, no staples or presentation folders please, must be sent to the Far West skiing office, and received no later than October 21, 2011. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Far West Masters Scholarship
The Far West Masters Scholarship Program is a program designed to aid Far West junior alpine ski racers in their race related expenses. All Far West athletes from second year J3s through J1s are encouraged to apply. The Far West Masters ccasionally fund exceptional athletes who are first year J3s or Mids. Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of citizenship, exemplary work ethic, academic scholarship, financial need, and race results. Applications are due September 15th 2011.
Dave Van Ruiten Memorial Scholarship
Dave Van Ruiten, former Director of Racing at Sugar Bowl Resort, passed away on November 7, 2005. He was the former Vice President of Far West Skiing, a tremendous leader and asset to junior ski racing in this region, and a highly respected professional. He was instrumental in Sugar Bowl’s commitment and rise to national ski racing prominence over the past several years. This special scholarship award to a Far West athlete with USST potential and financial need is named in his honor. The athlete chosen for this special award ($1,000) must be a J1 for the coming season, and must have a legitimate chance of being selected to the United States Ski Team (USST), according to the judgment of the Far West Board, based on the athlete’s national junior FIS ranking in one or more disciplines. Applicants must be members in good standing with Far West Skiing. In the event the Far West Board believes multiple athletes meet the appropriate criteria, they will look to financial need to assist in the final decision process. To apply for this scholarship, all applicants must complete and submit an application.
