Admission at Sugar Bowl Academy

Thank you for your interest in the Sugar Bowl Academy community.

Our mission states that SBA “inspires and empowers passionate, highly motivated students, setting the stage for competitive skiers to seek and celebrate challenge with grit, grace and courage.”

Indeed, in its very short history, SBA has established a track record of tremendous success, as some of its alumni graduate to national ski teams while still many more matriculate and thrive as student-athletes at the most selective colleges in the United States (at schools like Harvard, Dartmouth, Williams, Middlebury, Bates and Tufts, to name just a few). Of course, these successes rest on the shoulders of a remarkably passionate student body and staff who live, work and play around California's spectacular Lake Tahoe basin.

Because you’re reading this, you're likely contemplating whether SBA is right for you. Know that the SBA admission team understands the challenges that come with navigating secondary education choices, and we take great pride in doing everything we can to help you through the process in an honest, straightforward and thoughtful manner.

Certainly, we love talented students and athletes, but that you’re a gracious and highly motivated individual—even if your accomplishments to date are relatively modest—are the most important qualities we look for in applicants. You should also know that so much of what we do transcends the ostensibly narrow context of a “ski academy." Slopes, trails and classrooms are undoubtedly means by which we seek and celebrate themes of education and life, but at any given moment, SBA students are also immersed in activities which may include marine biology scuba dives off the Monterrey peninsula, contemplating the history of religion around the Great Salt Lake, studying Shakespearean productions at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival ... and much, much more.

Have a look around our website for a glimpse of life at SBA, and remember that it’s only a glimpse—visiting us in person is by far the best way to learn about all that our motivated student-athletes do.

We hope to see you soon!
