6th & 7th Grade Winter Term Program
Standard 7th Grade Curriculum
Medieval and Early Modern Times
Mathematics or Pre-Algebra
In conjunction with its full-year high school program, Sugar Bowl Academy offers a winter-term tutorial program to 6th and 7th grade students. The winter-term 6th and 7th grade program provides young skiers with the opportunity to develop their competitive ski racing skills through superior on-snow training while continuing their rigorous academic studies. Although athletic and academic pursuits may appear to conflict with each other, we find that they complement one another as we work to foster the growth of the whole child. Our 6th and 7th grade program allows children to reap the rewards of daily ski training, advancement in the classroom and personal growth through involvement in our team and community.
How the 6th and 7th Grades Work
Sugar Bowl Academy’s 6th and 7th grade program is a day student tutorial in which students’ work from their home schools is coordinated by a program director/instructor with over 20 years of experience teaching at the middle school level. Students enrolled in high school level Spanish or math classes are automatically enrolled in upper school courses.
In addition to time spent on individual work, students devote a considerable portion of class time to group learning. We emphasize a collaborative learning approach -- taking full advantage of the benefits of having our young, dynamic students working together. While adhering to state content standards, students will also focus on their respective “home school” curriculum as a smooth transition back to their “home schools” in the spring is an important goal.
In 2016, the 6th and 7th grade program will run from January 3rd through April 7th. Tuition for the 6th and 7th grade program is $4,625 and does not include ski team fees.
6th and 7th graders train with the SBST U12, U14 or Freeride program Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings prior to attending classes in the Village Hall from 12:30pm – 4:00pm. On Mondays, 6th and 7th graders will attend school from 8:00am – 3:00pm. On Fridays, 6th and 7th graders will attend school from 8:00am – 12:00pm and train in the afternoon.
